The New Pakistan -
U.S./Pakistan Business Relations
by James GW Fisher
Constant change has been
occurring over the past decade, defining new parameters for operation
of business across the globe. Many U.S. businesses have found
that having development completed off continent is a more
cost-effective option than full development and production in the U.S.
The amount of cost for production yet still retaining quality by
having it completed off continent is now a quite viable solution to
consider for a business.
An Overview of US/Pakistan Business Relations
On September 30th, 2002, the South Asia Affairs Department of the US Chamber of
Commerce officially launched the U.S./Pakistan Business Council, (USPBC).
The USPBC is the leader in promoting trade and investment between the
United States and Pakistan. In addition, the USPBC is now an
integral component of the South Asia Affairs Department at the U.S.
Chamber.
One of the most
historical moments of the inauguration was the signing of the papers
which signify the formal inauguration of Pakistan into the U.S.
Chamber of Commerce. At the inauguration, several
representatives of leading American companies which are interested in
or are currently engaged in doing business in Pakistan, as well as
several high-ranking U.S. Government officials. Pakistan has now been
established as a major asset in U.S. Business.

Business Potential
In Pakistan
Opportunities in
Pakistan for U.S. direct investment are literally immeasurable.
Pakistan is a bountiful and diverse source of prosperity in Fruits,
Surgical Goods, Textiles, Leather goods, and most important of all, IT
industry. The USPBC brings together Pakistani and U.S. business
leaders for constructive discussions of business conditions and policy
related issues. The council provides a forum for dialogue on key
economic, commercial, and other relevant issues of interest to
American companies doing or planning to do business in Pakistan.
The U.S.- Pakistan Business Council provides an institutionalized
framework to foster business relationships and create awareness of
business opportunities in Pakistan.
