Valiant Actions Beyond Measure
by Rev. James G.W. Fisher
There are hundreds of hotels reviewed by us over the last 30 years but no hotel has ever had staff demonstrate such valiant actions that are seldom seen in society today.
For over 30 years PIN has been reviewing hotels across the globe but there has never been one which has ever demonstrated such valiant and high moral standards as the staff at the Omni Hotel in Austin, Texas.

Aside from the main point of this article, the image to the left is a picture of the Omni Hotel in Austin, Texas to which this article is referencing.
Without a doubt, it is in a class all it's own with such an incredible staff.

THE FUN BEGINS
On Friday, September 10, 2004, I was in Austin, TX en route to a gaming conference show a few blocks away from the Omni Hotel. I was running full speed in my power wheelchair, in a rush to get to the trade show. I saw that the next street I was coming to was sloped at a good angle and in my foolishness assumed it would provide even more speed to help me get to my destination even faster. This where the fun begins...
I started down the slope and noticed the vehicle in front of me suddenly hit the brakes full bore. I assumed no problem in my own stopping, but quickly discovered to my dismay, that stopping would not be an option. My wheelchair kept sliding about 20-30 ft then began to fishtail. The right front tire turned sideways, which in turn caused my wheelchair to stop immediately while moving at a good speed, which caused the wheelchair to literally flip over and end up on top of me, pinning me beneath it with the full weight of the chair on my body.
LOCAL POPULACE MORALS PUT INTO QUESTION
I laid on that street with one vehicle after another passing by and ignoring my situation, showing no sense of moral integrity. They simply felt their priorities were more important than that of a man pinned under a wheelchair and possibly hurt.
It seemed like forever until finally, a gentleman from a linen cleaning company truck stopped and inquired if I was okay and needed assistance. He helped me get my legs out but when other people finally arrived, he left abruptly.
AN EXAMPLE OF STRONG ETHICAL VALUES
The people who took over in assisting me were not just anyone. No, to my suprise, it was two of the managers from the Omni Hotel in Austin! They conveyed to me that a guest of the hotel had seen me lying on the street and had called the front desk. The management staff decided to think out of the box, (unlike any other hotel we have ever reviewed in the last 30 years), and proceeded to sprint ful speed off the Omni Hotel property and see if they could be of assistance!
Now I don't know about our reader's personal experience, but neither myself or my staff have ever seen such a valiant example of concern and high morals demonstrated. Most hotels keep their concerns strictly to what is going on within the realm of their property. These gents stepped out of the realm that other hotel management reside, in and had but one single concern, to listen to their guest's concern and rush out to see if they could be of assistance with the jeopardy I had fallen into.
KUDOS TO THE MANAGEMENT STAFF OF THE OMNI HOTEL, AUSTIN, TX
If it wasn't enough for the gentlemen to assist me in getting up and showing the strongest cocnern for the pain I was in, they went one step further...
You see, as I stated before, I was en route to the Austin Gaming Conference. I was in serious pain but determined to get to my destination. I signed paperwork for the paramedics to not go to a hospital, but the staff from the Omni Hotel insisted upon making sure I got to the top of the sloped street I was on. They wanted to make absolutely sure I was okay and able to reach my intended destination.
Kudos to these men who had the moral character to care in such an admirable manner! It is so sad that the drivers of the vehicles passing by, gave an impression that people in Austin, TX are into their own selfish concerns.
From a personal standpoint, not as an opinion stated by PIN, I want our readers to know that I feel if they choose to visit Austin, TX in the future, you will know that the Omni Hotel is a hotel where people care about more than just the buck!
