C.F. Martin is synonymous
with quality with guitars and strings because
quality is a #1 concern...
C.F. Martin is a quite familiar word in the music
industry. Some people believe C.F.
Martin makes some of the best guitars in the world. C.F. Martin & Co., est. 1833, has
obviously been around for quite a while, and can show
all too well, the many
years of experience behind them.
Martin does different series of acoustic guitars, such
as, the Standard series, 16 series, and the X-series.
With
good wood getting harder and harder to find, Martin
has developed a hybrid of sorts for the X-series type
of guitar. Partially made of synthetics and, partially
made of wood.
The
nature of the earth’s resources has focused attention
on alternative materials. Martin’s ‘breakthrough’, if
you will, ‘X-Series’ features guitars constructed with
a combination of highly compressed wood fibers and
traditional tonewoods. HPL (High-pressure laminate)
has proven to be incredibly durable and workable
material and Martin has crafted ways to build
traditional Martin shapes with HPL that yield
incredibly long-lasting guitars.

What’s more, Martin managed to build them so they
possess that ‘famous’ sound and playability found
in Martin’s traditionally built guitars.
The 16 series is a well-established and innovative all
solid wood guitar that was originally developed as an
experiment in delivering better sound by using a
combination of proprietary bracing systems, called
X-bracing, on a solid wood instrument. The guitar has
become a longtime Martin favorite. Standard features
for the ‘16 Series’ generally include solid wood top,
back and sides, patented neck mortise, and the
experimental X-bracing. The "Auditorium" version is a
shorter 24.9" scale which provides a lighter, more
delicate feel to the player.
Martin launched this much imitated 'Standard Series'
line nearly a hundred years ago and set the standard
for all modern acoustic guitars-starting with the
Dreadnought, a shape that Martin first built to
provide a bigger, stronger guitar sound at a time when
there was no amplification, for the accompaniment of
singers in larger settings, including auditoriums.
For the most part, Martin is credited with inventing
these styles and shapes, and guitar makers in general
have moved to adopt Martin's size designations as the
standard for the industry.
Standard features for the 'Standard Series' generally
include solid wood top, back, and sides, polished
gloss finish, and a hand-fit dovetail neck attachment.
C.F.
Martin has established a reliable source of quality
guitars and strings which I firmly believe will be a
tough act to beat. For further information on
