CES 2004 - Las
Vegas
by
James G.W.
Fisher - Editor
CES 2004 was
without question the best CES ever seen in history. Perhpas
it could even be said that this year's show was the end of one era
of trade shows and the beginning of a new one. It was
clearly evident at CES 2004 that there was a major shift in the
entire show structure.
In the past you saw
a ton of freebies going out and a matching number of tire kickers
to go with it. This year there was far less of both the
freebies and tire kickers; rather it was an incredible combination
of the most innovative new products and services available,
combined with serious corporate buyers and other professionals.
The end result was a distinctly productive show that simply was
like no other.
The record breaking
#s speak for themselves...
"129,328
consumer technology executives visiting 2,491 companies in 1.38
million net square feet of exhibit space."
Just imagine a
trade show so huge you cannot even cover it in four days! You
might pull it off if you just glanced at each booth and move like
your backside was on fire, otherwise it would be virtually
impossible to cover the entire show. CES has become like the
Comdex of yesteryear that so many of us miss. Immense size
and diversity was the name of the game back then, CES is bringing
that same diversity back again only in consumer electronics,
games, and mobile electronics. |

CES Las Vegas 2004 continued...
With this massive change in CES, so
other changes begin to evolve. Due to the overwhelming costs
of exhibiting at trade shows, a domino effect has begun.
Exhibitors are beginning to no longer
bring sample products for press to take and review. Due to
the unique nature of our online show daily, we must have products
to test and review during the trade shows or we
simply cannot provide a show DAILY. It is because of this
fact that for CES 2005, PIN will be retiring our online show daily
and publishing an exclusive new "Feature Product Guide".
As times change, so must PIN. If
we are going to continue to be on the top, we have to adjust with
the times to remain consistent and continue to serve our readers
effectively. |
